Liz Truss to review minimum PE requirement for girls

Posted: 18th October 2022

The Prime Minister has indicated that she wants to review the minimum number of hours of physical education that girls have access to in school, after holding a meeting with members of the England women’s football squad. At present there is no minimum requirement for a set number of hours of PE and it is left to the discretion of individual schools. Baroness Sue Campbell, the FA head of women’s football and cross-party peer, said: “I think she’s confused as to why we’re not doing two hours in our curriculum and wants to review that, why isn’t that happening, and I think that’s all very positive.” While Liz Truss did not offer any assurances that the changes will be implemented, England captain Leah Williamson and defender Lotte Wubben-Moy will meet the education secretary, Kit Malthouse, for further talks in November.
