DESCRIPTION:Date: November 29\, 2022\nTime: 10:00 – 11:00\nCost: Member Rate – £60\, Non-member Rate – £120\nAudience: All teaching staff\, boarding practitioners\, and medical staff\nPlatform: Zoom (online)\n\n\nCourse overview \nWithin the regulatory requirements for a secondary school to deliver RSE\, the course looks at the case study of Wellington College and how they have developed their RSE delivery with Ella Sims of Colourful Peach. \nContext \nRelationships Education is compulsory for all pupils receiving primary education and Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) is compulsory for all pupils in secondary education. Schools are free to determine how to deliver the content set out in this guidance\, in the context of a broad and balanced curriculum \n\nAll schools must have in place a written policy for Relationships Education and RSE.\nSchools must consult parents in developing and reviewing their policy.\nSchools should ensure that the policy meets the needs of pupils and parents and reflects the community they serve including teaching staff and boarding practitioners.\nNational Minimum Standards for Boarding Schools 2022 (September)\nStandard 17.1. Boarders are supported to develop good relationships with fellow pupils and staff which are based on mutual trust and respect. Through regulations made under section 34 of the Children and Social Work Act 2017\, boarding schools are required to teach relationships education to primary school pupils and relationships and sex education wo secondary school pupils.\n\nLearning Outcomes \n\nReview and identify the key areas of RSE for boarding schools\nReview provision of RSE and identify its effectiveness\nIdentify the key decisions at Wellington College that led to today’s provision\n\n\nSpeakers: \nDelyth Lynch\, Deputy Head (Safeguarding and Mental Health)\, Wellington College \nDelyth has been on the Senior Leadership Team at Wellington College for 10 years\, having previously been Deputy Head (Pastoral). This followed a long career in boarding as a Director of Extra-Curricular activities and Housemistress at two schools. \nIn 2018 she was awarded the BSA Research Fellowship; Delyth conducted her research on ‘Abuse in Boarding Schools\, probing into an area where there was little research or literature available. Her paper won the National Research Award (2019). Her innovative work in the pastoral education of parents saw her winning the TES ‘Boarding Initiative of the Year’ award (2016) and in 2020 the inaugural Wellington College ‘Community Mental Health Day’ was recognised with them winning the BSA ‘Wellbeing and Mental Health Initiative of the Year’. Wellington College currently holds the Gold Status in School Mental Health through the Carnegie Centre of Excellence. \nDelyth is the Safeguarding Governor and Vice Chair of Governors at a local school and leads the Local Independent Schools DSL cluster group. She has also been a BSA course tutor on the Certificate and Diploma Courses and her work in the area of abuse in boarding schools was cited by IICSA in their recent inquiry into abuse in residential settings. \nIn her spare time\, Delyth enjoys running around with her 4-year-old daughter and triathlon. \n\nElla Simms\, Founder\, Colourful Peach \nElla is the founder of Colourful Peach.  Ella has worked in youth empowerment for over a decade.  In 2017\, she started running workshops for young people on consent and how to think critically about porn. She leads the anti-sexual violence project with Wellington College\, alongside the students themselves.  Colourful Peach believe in a future where all sex is consensual. They are helping to prevent harm from happening in UK schools\, inspiring passion for anti-sexual violence and smashing survivor stigma as we go. His first post in boarding was as Assistant Master at Christ’s Hospital in Horsham where he held several positions including Assistant Housemaster to a junior boy’s boarding house. After five years he moved on to Ardingly College in West Sussex as a Head of Department and Housemaster to a joint day and boarding house. Mark has been an inspector on boarding inspections\, an Assistant Housemaster to a girls’ boarding house and fully involved in teaching up to ‘A‘ Level. \nMark was appointed as Assistant Director of Training for the Boarding Schools’ Association in 2010\, where he continued offering training and consultancy to independent and state schools both in the UK and around the world. In 2017 he was appointed as Deputy Head Pastoral at Collège du Léman in Switzerland\, a large international boarding and day school.
