DESCRIPTION:Date: March 13\, 2023\nTime: 10:30 – 12:30\nCost: Member Rate – £195 / Non-member Rate – £390\nAudience: Anyone who works in boarding who has a desire to be the best they possibly can be.\nPlatform: Zoom (online)\n\n\nTo accommodate the busy schedules of TIOB members\, we have decided to restructure the TIOB Boarding leadership conference and split the day into three sessions across three separate dates. \n\n13th March: 10:30am-12:30pm : Effective ways to develop you and your boarding team followed by Authentic Leadership\n22nd May 11:30am-13:30pm: Marketing and Development followed by Recruiting and Retaining boarding staff\n16th June 11:30am-13:30pm: Strategic management of boarding followed by Crisis management case studies.\n\nShould you not be able to attend all three dates\, all sessions will be recorded and made available to delegates. \nThis conference promises to ensure that individuals in boarding can reflect on their performance in a range of spheres within their role. You will be presented with a range of perspectives\, support and inspiration from experts in the field. This session looks at what the boarding team needs in its toolkit to be relevant\, responsive to the 21st century boarder. \n\nSpeaker:\n\nWill Goldsmith\, Head\, St George’s School\, Windsor Castle\n\n\n\n11:30 – 12:30 Authentic leadership: getting the best out of your team \nThis session will explore what authenticity means in a leadership context\, and why it might be important.  We will discuss how the leaders of teams in boarding can earn credibility and respect by being clear about\, and true to\, what they stand for as leaders\, and how this can contribute to ensuring their work and the work of their teams is as successful as possible.     \n\nSpeaker:\n\nDr Jill Berry\n\n\n\nBOOK NOW \n\nSpeakers: \nWill Goldsmith\, Head\, St George’s School\, Windsor Castle \nWilliam Goldsmith has a career spanning almost twenty years in UK primary education and leadership. He is currently Head of St George’s School Windsor Castle\, having previously run St Leonards Junior School\, St Andrews\, where he embedded the IB Primary Years and Middle Years Programmes\, as well as a sector-leading approach to outdoor learning. William is passionate about a skills and mindset based learning philosophy; has a background in emotional wellbeing and mental health; and strongly believes in the value of learning outside the classroom. He is a founding fellow of the Chartered College of Teaching; fellow of the Royal Society of the Arts; and has a Masters in Learning and Teaching from the University of Oxford. \n\nJill Berry\, Leadership Development Consultant\, J Berry Associates Ltd  \nJill taught for thirty years across six different schools in the UK\, state and independent\, and she taught adults to GCSE and A level in the evenings for several years. She was a head for the last ten years of her time in schools. Since 2010 she has completed a doctorate\, researching the transition to headship and written a book about it: ‘Making the Leap – Moving from Deputy to Head’ (Crown House\, 2016) (also now available as an audio book); and carried out an extensive range of leadership development work. SUMMARY:Moving to an international school: possibilities\, practicalities and implications

It may also involve some adjustments. This webinar will explore the implications of moving abroad on family life and career prospects. We will also focus on the practicalities of moving abroad. For example\, salaries and tax will be covered as well as what happens if you want to return to the UK.    \nOur speakers not only have lived experience of moving overseas from the UK but have also moved from one international school to another. \nLearning Outcomes \n\nUnderstand the practicalities of moving from one country to another\nIdentify personal challenges of the international move\nEvaluate the opportunities presented by a move.\n\n\nSpeakers: \nChris Seal\, Head of Senior\, Tanglin Trust\, Singapore \nChris graduated from Loughborough University in the 1990s. Leading sport programmes at Woodbridge and Trent College precipitated a move into Shuker House as Housemaster in 2004 and a first connection with BSA. As a BSA certificate graduate\, certificate tutor\, diploma tutor\, conference convener and consultant\, Chris has worked with BSA ever since. Over that time Chris took the leadership of the boarding community at Licensed Victuallers’ Ascot before becoming Deputy Head at Millfield. A move to Thailand in 2017 to become Principal of Shrewsbury International School Bangkok proved wonderfully immersive and now Chris leads the Senior School at the region’s oldest international school\, Tanglin Trust Singapore. Having now experienced culture shock on two occasions and gained a new perspective on the role of boarding in the UK for overseas students\, Chris is continuing to learn about the international market and implications for the UK. \n\nCrispin Dawson\, Principal\, Padworth College formerly Founding Principal\, Cheltenham College Muscat \nCrispin has been both a Head of Department and a Housemaster in UK Boarding schools. He was Senior Deputy Head at Cheltenham College and set up Cheltenham’s first overseas school in Muscat\, Oman. The school opened with 312 pupils\, against a projected number of 180. Crispin is now Principal of Padworth College which specialises in helping students from the UK and overseas to access UK universities. \n  \n  \nBOOK NOW
