However\, while it is obvious to some for some\, there are elements to consider before putting in an application. \nIs it the right time? The right post? Am I ready or am I prepared? Is it the right school? How does this role fit into my life/my family’s life? \nOur webinar will explore these questions and what Heads look for when appointing senior leaders in their schools. \nLearning outcomes: \n\nConsider whether the move to Senior Leadership is for you\nReflect on key questions\nDevelop confidence in your purpose as a leader.\n\nBOOK NOW \n\nSpeaker: \nMark Lauder\, Headmaster\, Strathallan School. \nMark Lauder was born in Scotland and educated at Hermitage Academy in Helensburgh. He studied at the University of Aberdeen\, before moving to St Edmund Hall\, Oxford\, where he became Junior Dean of College. He began his teaching career at Shiplake College in Henley-on-Thames\, where he was Head of the History Department\, Resident Tutor and Master I/C of Rowing. He then headed back to Oxford in 1999\, to become Head of History at St Edward’s School and then a Housemaster. While there\, he continued with his rugby refereeing\, coaching U16s rugby and U15s rowing\, and ran the naval section of the CCF. \nIn 2007\, Mark was appointed Deputy Headmaster and Head of Boarding at Felsted School in Essex\, where he maintained his coaching and teaching roles. It was from there\, in 2010\, that he headed north\, to take on the role of Headmaster at Ashville College in Harrogate\, an HMC co-educational day and boarding school with 870 pupils. He has been an ISI team inspector\, a school governor and Chair of the Boarding School’s Association and is now in his eighth year as Headmaster of Strathallan School. He is also a member of TIOB. \nMark is married to music teacher Caroline\, and has two sons\, one a graduate and the other in 3rd year\, University. In his spare time\, he enjoys wild camping in the Scottish islands and walking in the hills.

She recently completed an MA in Boarding Education\, looking at resilience and prep boarders. Ally is a trained Mental Health First Aider and Instructor Member\, and is currently rolling out training to staff and parents.

With many TIOB members on the cusp of senior leadership\, it can be interesting to consider different types of senior positions\, and if you are best suited to academic or pastoral leadership. Our webinar will explore these two pathways and consider relevant attributes and training.  The session will enable delegates to make better-informed decisions about the next step in their leadership journey. \nTraining topics will include:  \n\nLine management\nCommon and different priorities\nSkills and attributes\nTransferrable skills from boarding\n\nLearning outcomes: \n\nBetter understanding of the opportunities and pressures of academic and pastoral leadership\nWhat makes for a good academic and pastoral leader\nHow best to market and use skills gained in boarding\n\nBOOK NOW \n\nSpeaker: \nMatthew Oakman\, Headteacher\, Saint Felix School \nHaving attended the Perse School in Cambridge\, Matt studied History at Oxford University (St Edmund Hall) where he then stayed on to complete his PGCE (Keble College) before embarking on a career in teaching and education. Having spent three years at Bryanston School in Dorset as an Assistant Housemaster and teacher of History and Politics\, Matt moved on to Wellington College. He then spent the next twenty-five years there at a time of great change and transformation for the College where he was able to play a significant role in this process; having been Head of Hockey\, Matt became the first Director of Sport at Wellington before taking on the role of Head of 6th Form. This in turn led to a number of Senior Leadership roles at the College including Deputy Head (Pupil Performance)\, Deputy Head (Academic) and finally Senior Master. In 2023\, it was time for a change and Matt moved on to become Head of Saint Felix School in Southwold. Here\, he has undergone a programme of updating the facilities\, introducing a new curriculum\, implementing a mentoring programme and creating a bespoke Saint Felix Diploma. Matt is married to Rossana and they divide their time between Suffolk and Brighton; they have two gorgeous cats (Mia and Dillon) and enjoy life by the sea and in the countryside. \nDavid Walker\, Executive Director\, Boarding and Director BSA/TIOB \nDavid is the Executive Director\, Boarding and Director BSA/TIOB  and joined the BSA group in August 2023. He has over 20 years’ experience in boarding schools and has worked in a range of schools in the UK and Africa\, alongside being a prep school governor and a trustee of a MAT. Before taking up his post at the BSA\, David was Deputy Head Pastoral at a large co-ed independent school in the South-East.
