Job Description

This post is full time, 35 hours per week. The tenure of the Assistant Head of School role is for an initial period of three years, with scope to extend to up to five years in total. Please note that the salary range for this post will increase from 1-Aug-23.

The School of Applied Management has a vacancy for the role of Assistant Head of School. We are seeking an individual who will work closely with the Head of School to deliver on the management and achievement of our strategic and operational objectives.

The role holder will assist the Head of School and will collaborate with our senior academic team and colleagues for the successful delivery of the school’s strategic plan. This senior role involves the pro-active leadership and operational management of academic colleagues to ensure our academic programmes are forward-looking, progressive, inspirational, and engaging for all our students.

As well as your management remit, which is substantial, and includes timetabling and resource planning, you’ll maintain your own teaching and research profile in your area of subject expertise. Each Assistant Head of School has a leadership portfolio. In this role you will lead on managing and championing our health, safety and wellbeing, EDI (including the attainment gap) teaching resources, and further developing a positive and inclusive working culture within the School. You will be an experienced academic colleague, with an established teaching and research/professional practice reputation in a relevant construction, digital business, project management, real estate, or other related management discipline. You will be familiar with all aspects of academic administration, particularly in respect of course and curriculum quality and development, research and Knowledge Exchange infrastructures.

You will already have experience of successfully managing people and broader resource management (infrastructure etc), and you will act as role model for your immediate team and wider School colleagues in your evident passion and commitment to creating an outstanding experience for our students, within a collegiate and inspiring working environment.

The School is seeking to build an outstanding student experience with a growing portfolio of an exciting range of undergraduate and postgraduate degrees and short courses. In particular our growth strategy is focused on our Apprentice Courses at all levels. Located within the Marylebone district in Central London, the School supports approximately 1500 diverse, multicultural students, a vibrant research community and important PSRB and industry sector links. It plans for further growth and strong reputation building.

The successful applicant will be appointed to a permanent contract with the University. The tenure of the Assistant Head of School role is for an initial period of three years, with scope to extend to up to five years in total. Thereafter, you will revert to an academic appointment, and re-embrace your academic career within the School.
