Crises can take many forms in a school setting, and the ability to respond swiftly, calmly, and effectively is essential for safeguarding pupils, staff, and the wider school community. This webinar is designed to equip boarding and leadership teams with the practical knowledge and confidence needed to manage a range of unexpected situations.
Through clear guidance and scenario-based learning, the session will explore different types of crises and appropriate responses, outline vital procedures and protocols, and highlight the importance of clear communication. The session will also focus on developing the calm, composed mindset needed to lead others through challenging situations with assurance and resilience.

Bart Wielenga, Head, Blundell’s School
Bart started his career in South Africa and taught at Michaelhouse before moving to Wellington College where he was Head of Economics and a Housemaster. He moved to Blundell’s in 2012, as Second Master, and became Head in 2018. He is due to return to Michaelhouse as Rector in 2026.
David Walker, Executive Director, Boarding and Director BSA/TIOB
David is the Executive Director, Boarding and Director BSA/TIOB and joined the BSA group in August 2023. He has over 20 years’ experience in boarding schools and has worked in a range of schools in the UK and Africa, alongside being a prep school governor and a trustee of a MAT. Before taking up his post at the BSA, David was Deputy Head Pastoral at a large co-ed independent school in the South-East.
