Excellent Boarding Housemasters are critical to the happiness and success of the school. They safeguard the wellbeing of their boys, help them to flourish and grow into good men. Bedford boarding houses are smaller than those at most boarding schools, usually housing about 40 boys across five year groups, due to the fact that the buildings are mostly old Edwardian homes. They are, by their very nature, homely – but are also spacious and comfortable, containing excellent communal spaces (including study rooms, games rooms and kitchens) and a mixture of shared and single rooms. The Housemasters’ accommodation is similarly generous. The boarding house is set on the edge of our on-site playing fields, and a few minutes walk to the heart of the thriving market town.
The Boarding Housemaster will be a member of teaching staff and will have normal teaching responsibilities in an academic department, although with reduced teaching commitments due to the Housemaster role. We welcome applicants from subject specialists from any subject in our Upper School curriculum. Full-time teachers at Bedford are also expected to play a part in the extensive cocurricular programme.

The selection process will involve a lesson observation, a tour of the school and interviews.
