Dog Trouble is a dog Behaviour, Training & Wellness centre providing overnight boarding and rehabilitation programmes to clients, with the ultimate goal of not only rehabilitating dogs to provide them with a second chance in life, but also to educate dog owners and people working with dogs about dog behaviour.

Job description

You will have previous experience of looking after dogs and managing their welfare. The Dog Centre Assistant will report into our Boarding Manager and to the Dog Trouble Director/Head Behaviourist. You will work alongside our trained staff and gain experience on the job and will be responsible for the daily care and welfare of all the centre dogs, as well as client’s dogs that are boarding or staying at the centre for behaviour rehabilitation.

The person:

Will have previous experience of dogs and or have studied for an animal management qualification. The role requires someone who has a good eye for detail and is customer facing, so a confident person with good communication skills is required. Reliability in this role is important as we are a small team of dedicated individuals working together for the benefit of the dogs in our care.

Duties Include:

  • Twice daily exercise of dogs, which may include pack walking, cycling or scootering.
  • Cleaning of dog crates and changing and washing of bedding.
  • Ensuring fresh water is always available for each dog.
  • Preparation of dog food and feeding as per each dog’s individual feeding plan.
  • Supervision of dog socialisation, including specific training activities where appropriate, in the off-leash paddock area.
  • Checking and observation of dog health including daily health checks .
  • Maintenance of a tidy and efficient working environment.
  • Collection and disposal of dog waste.
  • Administration of medicine where applicable after training is given.

Work Schedule:

The normal work schedule is on a shift basis working 5 days over Monday to Sunday. The shift starts at 07.30 in the morning until 4pm with a 1 hour lunch break. Once trained there is also a lock up evening shift once a week. Due to the nature of our business we are open all year round.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Previous experience working with dogs in a Kennel environment is advantageous.
  • A strong desire to work with and understand dogs and the ability and knowledge to provide for their physical and mental wellbeing.
  • Physical fitness as the role requires walking twice a day.
  • Ability to project a calm assertive energy.
  • Ability to multi-task and to remain calm under pressure.
  • Self-motivated and capable of acting on own initiative.
  • Comfortable working as part of a team.

Training

Staff training is provided to ensure the necessary knowledge, understanding and skills for the safe handling and care of dogs are acquired. The opportunity to acquire additional skills, such as dog first aid and nutrition, is also available. Self-learning actively encouraged.

Please note that Dog Trouble is not on a bus route so you will need your own transport.

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: £20,000.00-£21,500.00 per year
