St George’s, Ascot (SGA) is an independent boarding and day school with approximately
270 pupils aged from 11-18 years about 45% of whom are boarders (full, weekly and flexi) and with a Sixth Form of approximately 80 pupils.

Our unique extended day allows all girls the time and space to foster confidence, independence and academic curiosity providing a future-facing education exclusively for girls in a world that was not designed for girls and introduces the girls to contemporary subjects and topics, through speakers, workshops, classes and visits

Graded excellent in the November 2022 ISI Inspection for both quality of the pupils’ academic and other achievements and pupils’ personal development the inspectors commented “pupils’ positive attitudes towards learning are a striking feature of the school” and “there are many opportunities to develop all-round as a person within the co-curricular programme. As a result, they demonstrate healthy self-knowledge, well developed study skills, first-class social skills and an awareness of the world around them”.

The school operates as an Educational Trust administered by a Board of Governors, is a member of the Girls’ Schools Association (GSA), Boarding Schools Association (BSA), and is
ISC accredited.

Our location
The School is approximately 25 miles west of central London, on a beautiful, leafy 30 acre site, within walking distance of Ascot High Street. We are close to Windsor, Eton and
Bracknell and equidistant from the M3 and M4 motorways. Ascot High Street can be reached on foot in five minutes while Ascot Railway Station is less than a mile away.

All facilities are on site and include, amongst others, a state-of-the-art 350 seat theatre, three boarding houses, a sports hall, dance studio, squash court and newly refurbished fitness suite, spacious library, Science centre, photographic, textiles and art studios, 6 floodlit netball/tennis courts, extensive sports pitches and a 25m 6 lane indoor swimming pool.

The role and responsibilities

The School Secretary/Receptionist will act as a first point of contact for the pupils, parents, staff and visitors. As part of this role, they will also provide secretarial support. The post is a part-time, job share role with an existing receptionist and is term time only (33 weeks).

The School Secretary/Receptionist has the following duties, which are not exhaustive and will be the subject of periodic review:

● Welcome and sign in visitors upon arrival in reception using the School’s electronic sign-in system

● Answer all incoming calls on the switchboard and transferring them to the appropriate person/department, taking messages and passing on if appropriate

● Log all pupil absences on the electronic registers
● Follow up any absences identified by the morning and afternoon electronic registers; contacting parents if necessary to ensure all girls are accounted for

● Responsible for all coach/taxi bookings
● Update the School databases as required
● Type and format standard leers
● Provide general administrative support e.g. photocopying, filing, emailing, completion of standard forms, responding to routine correspondence, etc
● Liaise with the other post holder if required to ensure maers are dealt with effectively including detailed hand-over instructions to ensure the job-share works seamlessly

● Assist the Head’s PA and Secretary to SLT with other duties as required particularly at pressure points in the academic year

The successful candidate will be computer literate (word processing, spreadsheets, email essential). Familiarity with Google suite of programmes and databases is desirable but training will be provided for the successful candidate.

Person specification

Candidates should have experience of working as an administrator with a confident and polite telephone manner and the ability to communicate professionally, cheerfully and politely at all levels. He/she will be the first point of contact for visitors and parents and their manner and personal appearance must reflect the high standards expected at St
George’s. It is important that the individual is organised and capable of responding effectively and promptly to issues and able to work under pressure. Similarly, discretion and confidentiality, when required, are essential. The applicant should have empathy with the aims of independent education. He/she should have the ability to use their own initiative and have a flexible approach to meet the needs of the School.

Salary and Benefits
a. Start date: September 2023.

b. Salary: The pay for this term time position will be £8,000 per annum.

c. Pension: The successful candidate will be auto-enrolled into the School’s pension scheme if eligible.

d. Hours of work: This is a term time only position (33 weeks) and is a job share for which the hours are 8.00 am to 5.30pm working on Thursdays and Fridays. You will be expected to work one day at the end of each term.

e. Notice Period: There will be a probationary period of one year during which time the notice period will be one month. Thereafter, the notice period required by either side to terminate your employment will be two months.

f. Facilities: Lunch is provided free of charge during term time. Members of staff can use the School’s sports facilities at allocated times. There is free on-site parking. The post holder’s children may, upon passing the entrance assessments, be eligible at the discretion of the Governors for a reduction on the basic tuition fees.
