The world’s first specialist institute for professionals working in boarding education has been launched by BSA Group.

The Institute of Boarding (TIOB) is a new networking, training and professional recognition organisation aimed at individual boarding staff.

TIOB has been launched by BSA Group, which also operates the Boarding Schools’ Association, the world’s largest boarding education network with over 630 members in 37 countries.

There are thought to be around 5,000 professionals working in boarding schools in the UK and many more thousands in schools worldwide.

“Unlike many other sectors, there has never been an organisation for individual boarding staff, although thousands access training provided by the BSA every year,” said TIOB Director, Lorraine Atkins.

“TIOB is a world-first opportunity for individual boarding staff to get support and recognition throughout their careers, regardless of which school they work in anywhere in the world.”

Lorraine added that TIOB would offer guidance for those wanting to start work in boarding education and develop their careers in schools. The association would also provide networking opportunities, forums, online support and discounts for members on services.

“For over 50 years BSA has been the leading network for boarding schools and now TIOB will be the same for staff working at those schools, people interested in boarding and even retired boarding staff,” commented Lorraine.

“We are very excited to be launching TIOB at a time when supporting professional staff as they offer high quality pastoral care to boarding students has never been more important.”
