Assistant Head Pastoral (newly created role)

Free onsite accommodation available

Starting September 2023

We are seeking to appoint an inspirational, proactive, dynamic and innovative Assistant Head Pastoral to work with our Deputy Head Pastoral in further developing the pastoral life of the College. This newly created role presents a great opportunity for the right candidate to make the role their own, working with our newly appointed Deputy Head Pastoral to deliver outstanding levels of pastoral care.

This is an exceptional and rare opportunity for someone who has the qualities, skills and experience to be the Assistant Head Pastoral of Shiplake College in a year when the College becomes fully co-ed, with girls joining us from Year 7. The successful candidate will work closely with the Deputy Head Pastoral, other deputy designated safeguarding leads, house teams and wider Shiplake Community to continue delivering pastoral excellence across the College.

Taking responsibility for specific pastoral areas and looking to continually improve our offering, they will have specific responsibility for designing and implementing our anti-bullying strategy, organising College wide pastoral initiatives, leading on disciplinary matters alongside managing and developing our team of Matrons.

The successful candidate will be a first-class teacher with energy and vision and previous proven leadership experience in a school environment. They will be committed to Shiplake’s vision and values and demonstrate a passion for delivering an outstanding pastoral care programme.

This post will suit an ambitious and talented middle leader with the aspiration for further career development.

A willingness to participate in the varied extra-curricular life of a busy boarding and day school is essential. Free onsite accommodation will be available together with a salary which will reflect the high calibre of candidate we are seeking to recruit.

Shiplake has recently undergone a full ISI inspection and was awarded ‘excellent’ across all inspection categories.

Shiplake College offers a beautiful working environment, a vibrant Common Room with supportive colleagues, Teachers’ Pension Scheme, private medical insurance and excellent free lunches. Staff are encouraged to make use of the on-site gym facilities and open-air swimming pool, during the summer months, alongside the opportunity to make the most of our riverside location.
