Introduction:
Brockhurst and Marlston House Schools in Hermitage, near Newbury are looking for an enthusiastic and caring person who would enjoy being part of a fun and successful boarding team dedicated to providing the best possible care to our boarders from eight to thirteen years old.

General Expectations:
An organised, cheerful person, helpful and caring towards both pupils and their parents. High standards and a sense of humour would best suit the role.
As a member of the boarding staff, the House Parent is expected to work as part of a team which contributes to the life and running of the boarding programme. The House Parent is expected to be interested in the pupils and to keep their welfare in mind at all times. The role includes the smooth functioning of the boarding house and the pastoral care of the boarders. It is imperative that the House Parent is seen as an integral part of the pastoral “family” and as such they can be invaluable as a ‘friendly ear’, listening to home news, classroom issues, social relationships and sporting achievements. It is important to observe that, as the House Parent lives in the house, they are in contact with all pupils and can often be the first one to notice when a pupil is homesick, has relationship problems, is disorganised or is not themselves. The House Parent is a key contributor to the safe and caring environment.
Specific Responsibilities:
Helping with the day-to-day running of the boarding house, including the pastoral care of boarders.
Helping with the laundry and domestic arrangements.
Assisting the School Nurse as required (training provided if required).
Maintaining a close working relationship with the Head of Boarding and boarding staff.
Requirements of the role:
Experience working with children (could include one’s own)
Hold a current First Aid Certificate or be willing to undertake the relevant training
Hold a current Driver’s Licence (this is a requirement and is not optional)
