Parents off the homework hook: social class plays greater role in child’s marks

Parents tearing their hair out over quadratic equations may be relieved to hear that helping with a child’s maths homework has almost no impact on how well they do at school.

A study at the University of Manchester analysed data on more than 8,000 children in the UK between the ages of seven and 11. It compared teachers’ assessments of the children’s progress in maths and creative subjects and the amount of time that parents spent with them on assignments.
