Course overview

Boarding schools are a blending pot of staff, pupils, and parents from a myriad of backgrounds and cultures. Building and maintaining positive relationships with everyone, especially parents and external agencies is key to maintaining a happy house and boarding team.

This course will support boarding practitioners to build, manage and maintain positive relations with all boarding stakeholders.

Speakers:

Lorraine Atkins FTIOB, Director, The Institute of Boarding (TIOB)

Lorraine Atkins is the Director of TIOB and has worked in virtually all roles within the boarding community in both the UK and overseas.

She started her teaching career as a geography teacher at Lawnside School, Malvern in 1988, before moving on to King’s School, Worcester in 1994 and then Wycliffe College, where she was Head of Geography and Housemistress from 1997 to 2007. From 2007 to 2012, she was Senior Mistress and Head of Geography at Malvern College, before taking on a new role as Deputy Head of Malvern College Qingdao, China in 2012 and then Head in 2014. More recently, Lorraine was Principal of Padworth College following her time as Principal of Bishopstrow College.


Kay Price, Housemistress, Benenden    

Kay has been a History and Politics teacher for 15 years and has been working directly in boarding for 13 years; 7 as a Housemistress and 6 as a Deputy Housemistress. She has been involved with the BSA for a number of years completing the Certificate and Diploma, then went on to assist with the training.  As a solution focused coach and mentor Kay supports new pastoral staff in their roles and has run a number of school-wide pastoral programmes. Currently she is a Sixth Form Housemistress at Benenden, with particular interest in compliance and leadership.
